The Horror of Oz
A downloadable horror for Windows
The Horror of Oz is a maze runner that has Dorothy returning to a frightening rendition of Oz, where she must peruse through dark and treacherous mazes in search of escape, while being chased by corrupted versions of her dearest friends.
The Land of Oz has fallen into a heavy darkness after Dorothy left. The wizard had vanished, and in his place, a mysterious sorcerer rose to power. Just as bad, Dorothy's friends---the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion, blame Dorothy for their anguish, and spiraled down into maddening desperation for that which the Wizard couldn't truly deliver to them. "She lied to us," they said. "We never got what we were promised. But soon we will..."
- Maze run through 3 terrifying domains haunted by The Tin Man, Scarecrow, and Cowardly Lion. (Only chapter 1 currently available)
- Manage a dynamic fear system where you must balance exposure between light and shadow.
- utilize an assembly of intriguing tools to help guide you along your journey.
- Avoid being seen by deathly witches that hunt you down and devour your flesh.
- Teleportation portals that bolster intrigue, strategy and spontaneity to the mazes.
- Follow an engaging story to uncover the truth behind Oz's spiral into darkness, and find a way to save your friends.
>>> This game works best on Intel machines.
AMD users are likely to experience black screen issues due to the graphical effects used in the game. Unfortunately, this is a consequence of the game engine used to create the game. As a compromise, I'm working on an alternate version without the enhanced VFX. This will, of course, make the game look differently than what you see in the footage on this page, but it will allow AMD users to at least experience Horror of Oz. All the same game play elements and story are present, it's just the graphics will be toned down. This is not to suggest AMD users don't have powerful graphics cards, it's just a matter of technical issues between OpenGL and AMD.
>>> External graphics card required
Integrated graphics may have trouble running the game optimally. A GTX 970 or better would be ideal. Be sure to have up-to-date GPU drivers.
>>> How To Run
Once the contents are extracted, in the Horror of Oz folder, click on "Horror of Oz.exe". It will be represented by an orange icon.
>>> Difficulty Warning
This game has proven to be extremely difficult. It's hard as hell. I've added a tutorial section so players can have intimate knowledge of the schematics of gameplay. It seem like a daunting task to try and win, but to do so only requires focus, patience, and intelligence -- knowing how to use each tool and, more importantly, when to.
Anyway, good luck.
The full game with all three chapters will be released on Steam. Please considering adding the game to your wishlist to be notified when The Horror of Oz is released.
